Stem Cell Preparations

Haematopoietic stem cells (blood stem cells) are responsible for the regeneration of blood cells with their various tasks, e.g. oxygen transport, wound closure and immune defence.

Haematopoietic stem cell preparations are obtained from blood in circulation, from bone marrow or from cord blood and then placed in an anticoagulant solution. They are used fresh or are deep-frozen at temperatures below -140°C; for stem cell transplantation, stem cell preparations from the patient (autologous) or obtained from a donor (allogeneic) can be used.
