Paul-Ehrlich-Institut supports blood donation facilities with new online database

As of today, 3 September 2018, the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines, provides an online database for blood donation facilities. The database offers access to information on worldwide occurrences of infections with certain pathogen which are relevant for the safety of blood donation.

The information provided by the database helps employees in blood donation facilities make a decision whether and for how long travelers from certain countries have to be excluded from blood donations.

All data can be easily and quickly accessed, also from mobile devices, with updates on a quarterly basis.

The database offers a legal framework which increases the quality and safety of blood products as well as the manageability of donor deferrals.
