Paul-Ehrlich-Institut ranks second in the regional employer's ranking

As recently reported, the location of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut’s (PEI's) new building will be in Langen. The fact that the PEI remains loyal to the region is greatly appreciated. This is shown in a study conducted by the German magazine WirtschaftsWoche (WiWo) determining the employers which are most beneficial to the well-being of their region. According to the survey, the PEI ranks second in the district of Offenbach.

In the search for the most beneficial employers in Germany, loyalty to the location is an important criterion, which participants highly appreciate in their ranking. The news that "the PEI will remain in Langen" has created a great deal of positive feedback in Langen and its surroundings and clearly shows that the PEI is loyal to the location for the years to come. With its roughly 800 members of staff, the PEI is the second largest employer in Langen and thus plays a major economic role. Being a senior federal authority and at the same time a renowned research institute, the PEI contributes to the value of the Langen location.

In line with the study, an employer is considered as of value for a region if it considers aspects beyond the well-being of its company and its members of staff and acts accordingly. Being the Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines, the PEI is making an important contribution to the health system and medical care in Germany. Besides, a number of members of staff are committed to increasing the standards of pharmaceutical safety in international working parties and expert bodies.

Background

For the ranking, 54 districts and 17 towns outside districts were included in the survey. At least 100 citizens per district and at least 1000 citizens per major city took part in the survey. The ranks were assigned using the German system of school marks from 1 to 6, with 1 meaning "excellent" and 6 meaning "unknown to me / irrelevant" for the general wellbeing. The companies were pre-selected by number of employees. In the smallest district, a company must have at least 100 members of staff and a minimum of 500 in the largest city. 2158 companies were rated throughout Germany.
