COVID-19 Vaccine Valneva (Inactivated, Adjuvanted) – Shelf Life Extended to 21 Months

COVID-19 Vaccine Valneva (inactivated, adjuvanted) from the company Valneva Austria GmbH received a shelf life extension from the EU Commission on 17 February 2023. The shelf life was extended to 21 months, provided that the vaccine has been stored correctly in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C. The three-month extension applies to vaccine batches manufactured after approval was granted. In addition, this 3-month extension may be applied retroactively to vaccine batches manufactured prior to the extension approval. Therefore, according to the new approval, some previously delivered product batches (CV0001, CV0003) may be used up to 9 months after the printed expiry date, while other batches (CV0005, CV0006, CV0007) may be used up to 6 months after the printed expiry date. Details on the expiration dates of the affected vaccine batches are provided in the table below.

The printed vaccine expiry date on cartons, multidose vials and peel-off traceability labels no longer corresponds to the currently approved expiry date. As long as the permitted storage conditions of 2°C to 8°C (refrigerator) are observed, use after the printed expiry date is permitted.
