Rabipur available on a limited basis in misprinted German packaging
Rabipur is a vaccine against rabies that can be used both as a preventive measure and for post-exposure prophylaxis. At the beginning of February, Bavarian Nordic, the marketing authorisation holder, put batches of the vaccine on the market that contained a printing error in German: instead of "Tollwut-Impfstoff" (rabies vaccine), "Tollwut-Impstoff" (missing an "f") was printed in three locations on the folding box. Since there are currently supply shortages for both rabies vaccines available on the German market, Bavarian Nordic will continue to market the vaccine in the misprinted packaging until correctly packaged goods are available to ensure a minimum supply of rabies vaccines. The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut would like to advise that the batches containing this printing error have been released. The printing error does not affect the safety, efficacy, or quality of the vaccine.
Misprinted packaging from a total of four batches with the above-mentioned error will be in circulation. The following batch numbers are affected:
- FDP00280
- FDP00396
- FDP00456
- FDP00457
This misprint does not indicate potentially counterfeit vaccines, but instead was caused by an internal error on the part of Bavarian Nordic.
