Professor Zoe Waibler Appointed Acting Vice President

The German Federal Ministry of Health (Bundesministerium für Gesundheit, BMG) appointed Professor Zoe Waibler to the position of Acting Vice President of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut. Waibler is a bioscientist and has been a professor (außerplanmäßige Professorin) in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt since 2018. She has been working at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut since 2002: first as a post-doctoral researcher, then as the head of a junior research group that she set up on new vaccination strategies and early immune responses. After earning her habilitation in 2011, in 2017 she took over management of the Product Testing Immunological Medicinal Products Section within the Immunology Division and became deputy head of the division.

"I very much welcome the news of the Federal Ministry of Health's appointment of Professor Zoe Waibler as Acting Vice President of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut. In her more than 20 years at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, Ms Waibler has not only proven her high level of scientific expertise, but has also demonstrated great team spirit, leadership, and management skills," emphasised Professor Stefan Vieths, Acting President of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut.

"I am honoured by the trust that both the Federal Ministry of Health and Professor Vieths have placed in me. In the context of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut's wide range of tasks connected with its responsibility for such complex and exciting medicinal products, I am very pleased to take on this new role. The Institute's work and the people who dedicate themselves to it daily are very important to me. My goal as Acting Vice President is to make a valuable contribution to the continuing development of the Institute," said Zoe Waibler.

About Professor Zoe Waibler

Professor Zoe Waibler has been advising the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut's leadership team for many years on questions relating to product testing and operational laboratory procedures. In addition to her regulatory and scientific expertise, she has distinguished herself through management experience and the support of young scientists. She is a graduate of and mentor in the ProProfessur programme of the Hessian universities and is also involved in the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut's mentoring programme.

Zoe Waibler is the author or co-author of over 60 original publications and various book contributions. She is also a reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG) and for numerous international journals.
