Application Phase for the Technical Planning Disciplines for the New Paul-Ehrlich-Institut Building Has Begun

The architectural competition for the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut's new building in Langen was successfully completed at the beginning of November 2023. While negotiations are currently being organised with the prizewinning firms to determine the most economical offer, progress has been made in the integration of other types of technical planning for the building complex. The State Office for Construction and Real Estate in Hesse (Landesbetrieb Bau und Immobilien Hessen, LBIH) is now calling for tenders for two technical planning disciplines for the new building. Engineering and planning firms can now apply to participate in the award procedures for advanced technical planning/technical facilities and laboratory technology planning.

The new building will help the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut to ensure that operations continue to be carried out using the latest state-of-the-art technology in the future – an important prerequisite for fulfillment of its official duties as the Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines.

Planning Firms Specialising in Technical Facilities and Laboratory Technology Wanted

A high-capacity, modern laboratory and the technical equipment necessary for its operation are of especially great importance for the new building. Therefore, engineering and planning firms specialising in these two technical planning disciplines are currently being sought in two EU-wide tenders. All information on the tenders can be obtained from the state of Hesse's tendering platform. The application period ends on 5 July, 2024, at 10:00 am for participation in the award procedure for advanced technical planning. Planning firms can apply for the award procedure for laboratory technology planning until 4 July, 2024, at 11:00 am.

Background

The new complex will be built on an approximately 65,000 m² plot directly across from the building currently in use. It is to comprise around 31,000 m² of usable area and will be divided into laboratory areas, office space, animal facilities, common areas (lecture hall, museum, cafeteria), logistics, and a parking garage. All these different areas of the new building complex require a wide variety of facility and laboratory technology to fit specific operational needs. It is currently estimated that the planning and construction period will last 10 years.
