Permission for Use of Three Bluetongue Vaccines Extended

Two vaccines against bluetongue virus (BTV) serotype 3 have been authorised by the EU Commission since 20 February 2025: the BLUEVAC-3 vaccine from CZ Vaccines S.A.U. (Spain) intended for use in sheep and cattle and the Syvazul BTV3 vaccine from Laboratories Syva S.A. (Spain) for use in sheep. Since the two vaccines cannot be made promptly available in a form that complies with their authorisations and meets public demand, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft, BMEL) has authorised by emergency decree the continued use of the three vaccines designated by the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut. In addition to the existing form of the two currently authorised vaccines, sheep and cattle can also continue to be vaccinated with the BULTAVO 3 vaccine from Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica GmbH (Germany). The permission for use is initially limited to six months, i.e. up to and including 7 September 2025.
