New PEI website launched

22 / 2019

  • The PEI's website is a central resource to which the general public, professionals and the media can turn for reliable information on the safety, efficacy and availability of vaccines and biomedicines as well as the Institute’s associated research findings.
  • Healthcare professionals can obtain comprehensive information on the various medicinal products.
  • Companies wishing to develop biomedicines will benefit from rapid access to the regulatory services that the PEI can offer throughout the development process of a medicinal product.

After nearly two years of intense preparatory work, the wait is over: on Thursday, 21 November 2019, the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (PEI), the Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Health, is launching a redesigned website. At www.pei.de, the PEI is now looking ahead to a networked future.

"For us, the new website is a milestone on our pathway towards making the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut and its contribution to public health even clearer and even easier to access. With our website, we are offering a central resource for reliable, scientifically well-founded information on vaccines and biomedicines, thus providing valuable guidance, especially in this age of fake news," emphasises Professor Klaus Cichutek, President of the PEI. "At the same time, our website is an important step in increasing the transparency of the services we offer to pharmaceutical and medical professionals throughout the lifecycle of a medicinal product. This prevents any asymmetries of information and promotes the development of medicinal products through proper regulatory support," adds Cichutek.

The new website is the central information platform of the PEI and provides a more in-depth supplement to its social media activities on Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. Professionals from the worlds of medicine, pharmacy and research, as well as members of the public, representatives of the media and pharmaceutical companies, will be able to find relevant content, services and contact details for all the Institute’s central tasks and duties. In addition, the website provides comprehensive information about the Institute, the various medicinal product groups, medicinal product safety and the PEI’s research activities. In the “Newsroom” section on the PEI website, users will find the latest publications and events, as well as an archive function.

The content and structure of the new website are the result of extensive background and target group analyses and follow the best practices for digital communication. The PEI’s complex website content has been structured in a clear manner and also made more accessible to the general public by means of FAQs, glossaries and videos in easily understandable language. In addition, the website has been optimised for mobile use, to make sure it is ready for the increasing number of accesses from mobile devices in future. Special attention has also been paid to ensuring the accessibility of the content on offer.

The new career portal serves as an interface for potential staff members at all stages of their careers: those looking for trainee positions, young researchers, specialists and executives, particularly in the fields of medicine, the natural sciences and administration, will be able to find important information on job descriptions, the working environment, career opportunities and vacancies.

In the future, the PEI will be aligning its website even more closely to the needs of its users and will continue to develop it further. The increasing knowledge acquired from the various user analyses will form an important basis for this.
