Stefan Vieths is a state-certified food chemist and professor (außerplanmäßiger Professor) at the faculty of biochemistry, chemistry and pharmacy at the Goethe University Frankfurt/Main, Germany. As an internationally renowned scientist with many years of leadership experience at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut and as a designated expert at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Pharmacopoeia Commission, he has played a key role in shaping current international medicinal product regulations and was in charge of implementing the reorganisation of the Institute, which was completed in 2024. Through his scientific commitment and regulatory expertise, Stefan Vieths has been making key contributions to the further development and cultivation of quality, safety and efficacy in biomedicines in the field of allergology for more than three decades.

Federal Minister of Health Professor Karl Lauterbach:
"With Stefan Vieths as president the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut will once again be headed by an experienced and renowned scientist. The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut plays a decisive role in the promotion of research and the development of new medicines. This is where Professor Vieths' international experience in European medicinal product authorisation issues will be particularly useful."

Professor Stefan Vieths, President of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut:
"I look forward to continue the professional and organisational development of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut and to further strengthen its importance as a specialised and internationally relevant authority in the field of biomedicines. This also includes actively implementing the Medical Research Act that has come into force by integrating our work into the context of a more efficient, digitalised, and harmonised system. For us at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, research, testing, evaluation, authorisation, and the monitoring of biomedicines go hand in hand. We will continue to use the flexibility and adaptability of our Institute to create new structures to meet the challenges of the future."
